Image stabilisation and a Flip Port too
It's time for Flip fans to get their fingers twitching once more. Yes, the world's favourite pocket camcorder with that eponymous action USB is back and better than ever. Not only will both the Flip MinoHD and Flip UltraHD now shoot at 50fps, but with image stabilisation too.
Measuring?10.57 x 5.36 x 2.24cm, the Ultra gets the bonus of being 25 per cent slimmer than its last iteration and also retains that removable battery pack as well. It'll capture for 2 hours or 8GB, whichever comes first, but otherwise, apart from the newly added parent company logo at the bottom, it's pretty much the same beast - 2-inch display, 2x digital zoom and all the controls as expected. It comes in black or white with a silver band for ?179.99
The Mino, on the other hand, is dressed in a rather swish looking black or silver finish - no band this time - and features all the same shooting goodies as its bigger brother. Its vitals are?10.16 x 5.08 x 1.52cm with no removable battery for back up, but you can still go for a 2 hour/8GB version or the less expensive 1 hour/4GB if you prefer - ?179.99 vs ?149.99. But before you make your decision, take a look at our rather splendid pictures of them.
Lastly, pay close attention to the bottom of the Flip UltraHD which now comes with a proprietary Flip Port as well as the HDMI socket. Flip told Pocket-lint at the launch event that it is currently working with partner manufacturers to come up with some products to dock the pocket camcorders with direct. Quite whether the functions will be playback- or editing-based remains to be seen.
